Meet Sophia Fang — Acupuncturist with 27 years of clinical experience in Canada

Personalized Acupuncture Care for Pain Relief, Recovery, and Whole-Body Wellness

Sophia Fang, 北約克註冊針灸師
B.Md., R.Ac. — Serving Toronto Since 1999

With 27 years of clinical experience in Canada, Sophia Fang brings a caring approach and a genuine passion for helping people feel better. She has a particular interest in pain management and complex or persistent health concerns — and takes the time to understand your individual needs, whether you are struggling with neck or back pain, muscle tension, stress, poor sleep, or fatigue.

A Strong Foundation in Western and Chinese Medicine

Sophia Fang graduated from Jinan University’s Medical School in Guangzhou, China, where she trained in both Western Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), studying under experienced professors in acupuncture and TCM.

Since beginning her practice in Canada, she has continued to deepen her clinical knowledge — as a member of the World Association of Chinese Medicine (Canada Chapter) since 1999,a Committee Member of the I-Ching Navel Acupuncture Committee, World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, since 2017, and through two years of dedicated training under the mentorship of Dr. Ruanjin Zhao, completed in 2025.

Extensive Techniques for Individualized Care

Rather than relying on a single method, Sophia selects and combines approaches according to each patient’s symptoms, needs, and response to treatment. Her training and clinical experience include:

  • Traditional Acupuncture — For pain management, muscle tension, and general wellness.
  • Abdominal Acupuncture (Fu Zhen) — using points on the abdomen.
  • I-Ching Navel Acupuncture — A focused approach using points around the navel.
  • Dong’s Extraordinary Points — A distinctive system known for its precise point selection.
  • Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA & Jiao’s styles) — used in selected pain and neurological rehabilitation settings.
  • Auricular (Ear) Acupuncture — supporting pain management, stress relief, and body regulation.
  • San Cai Needle Technique — training received through Dr. Kai Cheng’s clinical teaching.
  • Advanced Cosmetic Acupuncture — Acupuncture training focused on cosmetic applications.

The Tongue Tells the Story

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the tongue is a window into your internal health. Its color, shape, coating, and moisture reflect the state of your organs, energy, and overall balance.

Tongue diagnosis looks simple, but reading it accurately takes years of clinical experience — and it is one of Sophia’s defining skills. Refined over 27 years of practice, her tongue diagnosis allows her to see what symptoms alone cannot reveal, and to formulate a precise treatment plan from the very first visit.

Clinical Experience in Pain Management, Neurological Conditions, and Bell’s Palsy

Pain management and neurological care are central to Sophia’s practice, including neck pain, shoulder discomfort, back pain, persistent muscle tension, and nerve-related symptoms such as tingling, numbness and nerve pain.

She also has extensive experience treating patients with Bell’s palsy, using acupuncture as part of an individualized approach aimed at restoring natural facial function and symmetry.

Individual responses vary; treatment outcomes depend on the condition and the person.

Supporting Women’s Health and Overall Well-Being

Beyond pain, Sophia works with patients seeking support for stress, sleep difficulties, fatigue, menstrual irregularities and discomfort, and general well-being during periods of physical or emotional strain.

She also has extensive clinical experience in women’s reproductive health, providing acupuncture as a complementary therapy for women undergoing fertility treatment, including IUI and IVF — with a focus on supporting stress management and overall well-being during the process.

For expectant mothers in late pregnancy, she offers acupuncture to help support the body’s natural readiness for labour, as well as relaxation and comfort as they prepare for childbirth.

A Personal Journey That Shaped My Practice

“In 2015, I suffered a serious fall down a flight of stairs and was diagnosed with Central Cord Syndrome following a cervical spinal cord injury. My mobility was significantly limited, and I needed assistance with everyday activities.  During rehabilitation, I incorporated my own acupuncture procedures into my recovery process. Over approximately three and a half months, I regained full mobility.  That experience deepened my understanding of what patients go through during recovery — and it shapes how I treat every person who walks through our door.”

Compassionate Care, Tailored to You

“My philosophy is simple: treat each person as an individual, look beyond the symptoms, and help every patient work toward feeling better and living well.”
